Every year, the Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship provides fully financed scholarships to deserving students from impoverished nations who are unable to afford postgraduate education. The scholarship pays for living expenses and tuition for the whole time the student is enrolled in the program.

  • Only the first two years of study are funded; after that, students are expected to find other sources of financial support.
  • Master’s degree programs are prioritized, however PhD applications are also taken into account. Funding is available for distance learning programs and local or regional universities as long as the course maintains a high degree of quality.
  • In order to maintain the program’s viability, the scholarship is set up as a 50% grant and 50% loan, with students expected to return half of the funds.
  • Six months following the conclusion of the Aga Khan Foundation-funded study term, the five-year repayment period will start.
