Applications are open for the Fellowship in Outbreak Readiness for Global Health Protection (FOR-GHP) 2026 - a 1.5-year blended fellowship funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health under the Global Health Protection Programme (GHPP).
FOR-GHP uses a multiplier / training-of-trainers approach to strengthen outbreak preparedness, emergency response, and resilience among public health professionals across sub-Saharan Africa. Consortium partners include AFENET, BNITM, Robert Koch Institute, and Swiss TPH. Workshops take place in Hamburg, Accra, and Kampala. Deadline: 21 October 2026, midnight CET.

Programme Structure
- 1 Dec 2026 - 1 Jan 2027 - Complete 7 graded eLearning modules (pre-selection)
- 12 - 17 Apr 2027 - Workshop 1, Hamburg, Germany
- In-between phase 1 - Develop a teaching case study for piloting
- 11 - 15 Oct 2027 - Workshop 2, Accra, Ghana (pilot case studies)
- In-between phase 2 - Implement teaching case study at home institute
- 3 - 7 Jul 2028 - Workshop 3, Kampala, Uganda + Sustainability Strengthening Initiative

Eligibility
- Origin and employment in sub-Saharan Africa
- At least two years professional experience in public health or biomedical sector (preferably infectious disease management/prevention/control)
- Degree or proficiency in Public Health, Medicine, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Biology, or allied health sciences
- Employer endorsement (use official template) releasing you for three workshops and supporting case-study implementation
- Current letter of recommendation (not older than three years) with contactable referee details
- Advanced English (e.g. TOEFL iBT 79 - 80, IELTS 6.0, native speaker, or higher education in English with proof)
- Computer with stable internet, audio, and microphone for virtual components (phone/tablet not permitted)
Selection Process
- Steering board grants access to seven eLearning modules (December 2026)
- Based on eLearning performance, a brief essay, and other criteria - Zoom interviews in English (January 2027)
- Final fellow selection; signed learning contract required for admission
All gender identities are strongly encouraged to apply. Organisers recommend booking a German embassy visa appointment for the Hamburg workshop as early as December 2026.
