The Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship can be taken at any state-recognized German university. If you are unable to afford expenses in Germany eligible candidates may apply for this scholarship. The application closing date is March 1st and September 1st. If you haven’t secured any admission to a German university then it’s time to secure it and apply for the Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship to fund your studies in Germany. More details are given below.

About Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship

  • Host country: Germany
  • Study level: Undergraduate, Masters, PhD
  • No of Scholarships: 1,500
  • Application closing dates: 1st March 2024, 1st September 2024

Note: At this time Heinrich Boll Foundation is not accepting applications for undergraduate degrees.

Financial Aid

  • For Master Studies:
  • Non-EU Students: 934 euros monthly stipend to cover living expenses, health insurance, and Tuition fees are covered in some cases.
  • EU Students: 812 euros monthly stipend, and 300 euros book money per month.
  • For PhD Studies:
  • Non-EU PhD students: €1,200 per month plus €100 mobility allowance per month, plus various individual allowances; tuition fees are not possible.
  • EU PhD students: €1350 per month basic scholarship plus €100 per month research costs allowance; tuition fees are not possible in Germany but are possible to a limited extent in other countries.

General Eligibility Criteria

  • The scholarship is open to all nationalities.
  • Both German and international students can apply.
  • Scholarship recipients to have excellent academic records
  • Only online applications will be acceptable.

Criteria for International Master students who earned their university entrance qualification outside Germany:.

  • eligible candidates may apply before starting your master’s program or up to the end of the first semester.
  • You must provide proof of your first professional qualification.
  • You must have a required level of German proficiency, which is Level B2 or DSH 2 (with a certificate).

Criteria for International Doctoral students who earned the university entrance qualification outside Germany:.

  • You must include proof of admission to doctoral studies at a state or state-recognized university, usually in Germany, with your application.
  • By the application closing date, you must have completed preliminary work and submitted a valid timetable for completion.
  • PhD subjects related to the Foundation’s focal points will be given priority.
  • You must have a required level of German proficiency, which is Level B2 or DSH 2 (with a certificate).
