Program overview

Full description, requirements, and what to expect

Apply for the Leading Change Fellowship 2026 - 2027 in Canada - a virtual, cohort-based leadership programme from Leading Change Canada for people aged 19 - 35 who live in Canada and want to drive environmental or social impact. Applications close on 7 September 2026.

This is not a paid research post or an overseas study award. It is a national online learning community that runs from a 29 September 2026 welcome call through 9 February 2027 project presentations. Sessions are bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT (up to two hours). You do not need “sustainability” in your job title or a finance background to apply.

This Opportunity Station guide is original copy based on the official 2026 programme and FAQ pages. It covers who should apply, the three learning tracks, time commitment, cost, and how to submit.

What You Actually Learn

The curriculum links three themes rather than teaching one narrow “green jobs” module:

  • Environmental prosperity and resilience - climate solutions, adaptation, wellbeing, nature, and just transitions
  • Financial wellbeing - how money, climate, and sustainability sit together in everyday and organisational decisions
  • Cooperation in business - cooperative and purpose-driven models built on equity and shared prosperity

Past cohorts reported large jumps in how well they connect those three areas, plus more confidence to design sustainability work. Treat those figures as organiser-reported outcomes, not a guaranteed personal result.

Programme Calendar (2026 - 2027)

  • 29 September - Welcome call
  • 6 October, 20 October, 3 November - Environmental resilience workshops
  • 17 November, 1 December, 15 December - Financial wellbeing workshops
  • 12 January, 26 January 2027 - Cooperation in business workshops
  • 9 February 2027 - Wrap-up and impact project presentations to a panel of industry and community leaders

You may miss up to one workshop per content module if you give at least 24 hours’ notice. Repeated no-shows can lead to a request to leave the cohort.

Time Commitment

  • Live Tuesday sessions: typically up to 2 hours each
  • Team impact project: most fellows budget about 15 - 20 extra hours across the programme (some teams do more)

The project is meant to land in a real workplace, campus, neighbourhood, or network - not a hypothetical case study. Some teams may later receive extra financial support if they want to keep building the idea after February.

Cost - Not a Fully Funded Overseas Fellowship

Leading Change uses a sliding-scale contribution with a suggested amount of CAD $200. The organisers state that money should not stop someone from joining. Employers, schools, and mentors can sponsor a fellow; email admin@leadingchangecanada.com for sponsor documentation.

Sponsors named on the official site include Co-operators and Coast Capital. Confirm current contribution rules on the FAQ before you apply.

Who Should Apply

A strong fit usually looks like this:

  • You are 19 - 35 and live in Canada
  • You care about environmental or social change (through work, study, volunteering, or lived experience)
  • You are early-career, changing fields, or trying to lead more confidently
  • You can attend most Tuesday evening sessions and work on a team project
  • You want peers from other provinces, sectors, and backgrounds - not only people who already look like your current network

No specialist degree is required. Do not use generative AI to write your answers; spelling, grammar, translation, and accessibility tools are allowed.

What to Prepare

  • Basic personal information
  • Short written responses
  • A one-minute video introduction
