Program overview

Full description, requirements, and what to expect

The goal of the UC Berkeley MasterCard Scholarship is to develop a cohort of morally-driven, enterprising, and vibrant youth leaders who will drive socioeconomic change throughout Africa. The University of California, Berkeley and The Mastercard Foundation have partnered globally with academic institutions and non-profits who also think that education is the key to social and economic advancement. Over 40,000 young people have benefited from over $1.2 billion in educational and leadership development investments made possible by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

With the exception of doctorate candidates, the program at the Centre for African Studies at UC Berkeley has funded more than 120 undergraduate and master’s students between 2012 and 2020.
