For international students, especially those who are applying for asylum or have temporary immigration status outside of immigration regulations, the Queen Mary University of London Undergraduate (Sanctuary) Scholarship provides a fully financed opportunity. For the course of the undergraduate degree, it offers complete tuition coverage and maintenance assistance. A living expense stipend, up to £15,835 for independent living, may also be awarded to qualified students. Depending on living circumstances, further support includes maintenance funding in line with UK student loan rates and a Queen Mary bursary equivalent of £1,700. Certain programs in the Faculties of Science & Engineering and Humanities and Social Sciences are eligible for the scholarship. Depending on eligibility and need, it is given to up to two students each year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must be either an asylum seeker or the child of an asylum seeker, or they must have a temporary immigration status obtained through an asylum application outside of the regular immigration regulations (such as restricted leave to remain, discretionary permission to remain, or humanitarian protection).
  • must be disqualified for assistance from the Student Loan Company because of their immigrant status.
  • By January 14, 2026, a UCAS application for an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences must have been filed.
  • Queen Mary University of London must have made an offer, either unconditional or conditional.
  • must not already possess a higher-level or comparable qualification.
