Do you want to pursue a fully supported PhD in Germany as a passionate international scholar in literary or cultural studies? For the academic year spanning April 2026 to March 2029, the University of Münster’s Graduate School Practices of Literature (GSPoL) kindly requests submissions for its esteemed DAAD PhD Scholarships.

In partnership with the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is providing funding for this opportunity through the Graduate School Scholarship Program (GSSP). The program, which is hosted by the University of Münster (WWU Münster), provides a PhD scholarship for three years, with the option of a one-year extension.

Eligibility criteria

  • Academic Requirements: Possess a German grading system Master’s degree in literary or cultural studies with a minimum GPA of 2.0; in rare circumstances, a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 1.5 or higher may be accepted.
  • Note — Show that you are proficient in either German or English at the C1 level and that you are at least B1 in the other language.
  • Also, Additional Language Proficiency: As mandated by the PhD study standards, possess additional foreign language proficiency.
  • Plus, Prior to being nominated for the scholarship, the applicant must have been in Germany for no more than 15 months.
  • Requirement: Timeline for Degree Completion: The most recent degree must have been earned within the previous six years.
  • PhD Status: Candidates cannot have a PhD degree already.
  • Note — Program Commitment: Must be prepared to live in Germany for the entirety of the PhD program (up to 25% of the program may be spent conducting research outside).
