Eligibility
- Citizen of (or refugee status from) an eligible Commonwealth country, or British Protected Person
- Permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
- Available to start in the UK by September 2027
- By September 2027: first degree of at least 2:1, or a 2:2 plus a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s)*
- Not registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, at a UK university or in the home country before September/October 2026
- Unable to afford UK study without the scholarship
- All required supporting documents uploaded by the deadline

Scholars commit to returning home after the award. No CSC age limit (check employer leave rules).

How to Apply
- Read the official call: Commonwealth PhD Scholarships.
- Identify your national nominating agency (or eligible NGO) and its earlier internal deadline.
- Contact a proposed UK supervisor and secure a supporting statement.
- From 8 September 2026, apply on CSC Central and submit by 20 October 2026, 16:00 BST.
- Upload passport/ID, full transcripts, at least two PDF references, and a UK supervisor supporting statement (PDF).
- Complete the Development Impact statement and research plan (fit for 36 months).
- Nominators forward candidates in December 2026; selection is from nominations only (nomination ≠ award).
