International students who are seeking refuge or who are temporarily in the country because of an asylum claim are eligible to apply for the Queen Mary University of London Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarship, which is fully financed. For students living on their own, the scholarship provides a living expense stipend of up to £13,762 annually in addition to a complete tuition fee remission. Students enrolling in undergraduate degree programs in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Science & Engineering are eligible to use it.

  • Included in the non-repayable maintenance assistance is £1,700, which is the Queen Mary Bursary equivalent.
  • - A living cost grant that is in line with the rates of student loans in the UK:
  • £8,877 for people who live with their parents
  • £13,762 for those who are self-sufficient

Eligibility Criteria

  • possess a temporary immigration status that was awarded as a result of an asylum claim but does not fall under the normal immigration regulations (such as humanitarian protection, restricted leave to remain, or discretionary leave to remain); or
  • Be an asylum seeker yourself or a child of one.
  • have your immigration status prevent you from receiving funds from the Student Loan Company.
  • have, by January 29, 2025, filed a UCAS application for an undergraduate study in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Science & Engineering.
  • got an offer from Queen Mary University of London, either unconditional or conditional.
  • not currently possess a higher-level or comparable qualification
