The Challenge Task
Create or improve a real-world voice AI application where the transcript drives a downstream / agentic task - not speech-to-text alone. Examples: voice booking assistant, voice-driven triage, spoken-language form-filler, or a voice interface that takes action for the user.
Five Impact Categories
- Health - clinical documentation, patient intake, community/maternal health, hospital workflows, frontline care
- Legal & Public Services - court transcription, legal aid, citizen services, civic reporting, justice access
- Fintech, Telco & Customer Experience - voice banking, KYC, payments, call centres, agent assist
- Agriculture & Education - farmer advisory, tutoring, local-language learning, skills training
- Other High-Impact Use Cases - humanitarian, accessibility, media, transport, culture, and more
Prizes & Benefits
- $10,000 total cash prize pool across challenge categories
- Partner Demo Day access for top teams
- Visibility with sponsors, judges, funders, and ecosystem partners
- Potential pilot or deployment conversations
- Additional Sahara API credits to keep building
- Recognition across Intron and partner channels
Eligibility
- Open to builders across Africa and the diaspora - solo or team
- Especially encouraged: developers & engineers, AI/ML researchers, startups & product teams, student teams, open-source builders, NGOs & civic-tech teams, and companies with voice or customer-facing workflows
Submission Requirements
- Use voice to achieve a downstream task (agentic component), not only convert speech to text
- Benchmark on code-switched audio across at least three speech models, including an Intron Sahara API plus at least two other models of your choice
