The SMART Scholarships USA 2026 - 2027 are a fully supported opportunity for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral study in STEM subjects, and international students are urged to apply. The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program, which is supported by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), offers full tuition coverage, internships, and guaranteed civilian employment at a DoD facility upon graduation to students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through the program, students can contribute to national innovation and defense-related projects while gaining advanced research expertise. In order to get ready for full-time jobs with the Department of Defense, participants also finish summer internships. Critical STEM fields like engineering, physics, mathematics, architecture, oceanography, and operations research are eligible for the scholarship. Every year, from August to December, applications are normally accepted.

Eligibility Criteria

  • At the time of application, one must be a citizen of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom.
  • must be at least eighteen by August 1st, 2027.
  • Recipients of multi-year awards must be able to finish at least one summer internship.
  • must need funds for at least a year prior to completing the chosen degree program.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required for current students.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in one of the recognized STEM subjects is required.
  • must be enrolled in or have transcripts or proof of admission from a U.S. university with regional accreditation.
  • Military personnel on active duty are required to be either on terminal leave or dismissed from service.
