What Grants Typically Do Not Cover
- Books (unless also published independently as journalism)
- Feature-length films (short documentaries with strong distribution may be considered)
- Staff salaries; outlet overhead (rent, utilities, insurance)
- Equipment purchases (rentals case by case); seed money for start-ups
- Routine breaking news; advocacy/marketing campaigns
- Data projects solely for academic research
