Applications are open for the London Mathematical Society (LMS) Mathematics in Africa Grant - partial funding of up to £2,000 for mathematical activities taking place in Africa, including conference attendance, organising conferences or workshops, and research collaborations.
Applicants may be based anywhere in the world; the activity itself must be in Africa. PhD students are not eligible. Upcoming LMS deadlines: 15 September 2026, 22 January 2027, and 15 May 2027. Submit well in advance of your activity start date.

What the Grant Covers
- Mathematical activities based in Africa
- Travel, accommodation, and subsistence
- Caring costs for attendees with dependents
- Visa costs (treated as normal travel expenses)
Payment is made to a university or institution only (not individual bank accounts). Half may be claimed in advance; the balance is paid after a satisfactory financial and academic report, up to actual costs incurred.
LMS grant life is two financial years (1 August - 31 July). Unclaimed grants within that window are withdrawn.

- PhD students are not eligible
- Only one Mathematics in Africa grant per person per LMS financial year
- Applications are not considered retrospectively; submit well before the activity
