Apply for the Jesus College Cambridge Science Research Fellowship 2026 - a paid, three-year Research Fellowship at Jesus College in the University of Cambridge, normally starting 1 October 2027.

Cross-disciplinary projects are welcome if they involve at least one listed subject (for example, Computer Science and Linguistics) - those candidates should apply to this Science competition, not the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences competition:

Who Can Apply

  • Early-career researchers: graduate students in the later stages of a PhD, or postdoctoral researchers who have recently been awarded a PhD
  • Candidates who have undertaken more than five years of full-time research are unlikely to be considered
  • The College may consider exceptions; you can present a case during the application process
  • The College is an equal opportunities employer

What the Fellowship Provides

  • Stipend from £32,882 per annum (step 35 of the University salary scale), subject to scale increases
  • Free dinner or lunch for all Research Fellows, whether living in or out of College
  • Possible reimbursement of certain research benefits
  • Eligibility to join the University Pension Scheme
  • A College ‘bench fee’ of the order of £12,000 per year (subject to annual review) so the Fellow can access University Department facilities

Selection Process

  1. Register and apply online via the JRF portal, including two referees’ reports
  2. Shortlist: candidates are asked to upload written work (up to 40,000 words) and a 500-word statement on the importance of their current and proposed work
  3. Incomplete applications are not accepted

Is this for Arts subjects too?

No. This is the Science competition. Cross-disciplinary work that includes a listed science subject should apply here. There is a separate Arts Research Fellowship at Jesus College.

Can I apply if I have more than five years of research experience?

Candidates with more than five years of full-time research are unlikely to be considered, though the College may allow exceptions if you make a case in the application.
